RealSleep Launches First Personalized, Natural Sleep Product Developed Using Wearable Sleep Scores to Design the Perfect Rest

With $2.2 million in seed funding, the clinically-tested, cannabinoid-based product is the first and only to allow users to personalize their formula to fit their individual sleep needs

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 30, 2021) RealSleep today unveiled its natural sleep solution - the first and only wholly customizable, cannabinoid-based sleep aid designed just for you - along with $2.2 million in seed funding. The offering uniquely allows users to improve and personalize their sleep formula, combining other natural compounds with its proprietary core formula to support individual sleep needs. The team is the first to leverage a tech-forward, “sleep hacker” approach to its core formula development: as a supplement to extensive clinical testing, the RealSleep solution was designed and optimized using popular wearable technologies to maximize one’s sleep score.

Over 4 billion people suffer from poor sleep worldwide, and it’s recognized as one of the greatest threats to global health, with ties to heart attacks, obesity, dementia, diabetes, cancer, and now COVID-19. With insomnia cases at an all-time-high, the market for sleep solutions has exploded -- the space is projected to grow from $81.2 billion in 2020 to $112.7 billion by 2025. But almost all sleep solutions on the market are combative in nature, relying on sedatives that put the body into a state more like an induced coma. Plus, despite the individualized nature of sleep, none offer a personalized approach.

The natural sleep aid that adjusts to your needs

Leveraging its unique personal sleep survey, as well as a combination of self-reported data and one-on-one consultations with sleep coaches, RealSleep users can opt for an individualized sleep formula, pairing the company’s proprietary core formula with other natural compounds to suit one’s personal sleep needs. The core formula features a proprietary blend of non-psychotropic cannabinoids to offer a natural, restorative sleep, including CBD, which helps with relaxation and anxiety relief, and CBN, a compound with sedative-like qualities that promotes sleep. With algorithms that learn based on your sleep experience, RealSleep can consistently refine and improve each custom formula.

The company is headed by CEO Ashley Levine, alongside Co-Founders Billy Gallagher and Michael Kamins. Levine has held leadership roles across operations and marketing for companies like Skechers, with demonstrated success in scaling high-growth businesses and leading high-performance teams.

“As an entrepreneur and mother of four, I’ve seen firsthand how true, restorative sleep made me a better leader, a better mom, a better partner. The quality of our sleep is directly correlated to the quality of our lives,” explained Levine. “We’re offering a solution that mirrors the individualism of your sleep experience, that fits your routine, adapts to your lifestyle and evolves along with you.”

Gallagher began designing the formula to support his mother’s recovery after a brain tumor left her with poor sleep and short-term memory loss. Kamins, former Head of Music Partnerships & Growth at Musical.ly and TikTok, as well as Chief Community Officer of the Wholistic Research & Education Foundation, a non-profit medical research organization dedicated to funding clinical trials with cannabinoid-rich therapeutics, then applied his deep background in growth hacking to elevate the core formula. He sought to “hack” the cultural fascination with sleep score, tracking his own sleep data with popular wearables like Oura, Whoop, Apple Watch and Fitbit, and monitoring correlations between the formula ratios and sleep score to reverse-engineer the most impactful blend.

Clinically-tested to promote restorative sleep

RealSleep is the only CBD-based sleep solution that has been clinically tested to help your body get the restorative sleep your body needs, naturally. Over 14 days taking RealSleep, 80% of RealSleep’s random sample saw significant improvement in their overall sleep scores, with significant (+56%) improvement in the overall samples’ scores for next-day daytime function and (+46%) improvement in scores for sleep quality. Users that tracked sleep using wearable technology and shared their data with the business saw a 100% increase in deep sleep and REM time, improved resting heart rate, and even beat all tracked metrics. The company is guided by a strong scientific advisory board that includes the Head of UCLA Brain Research Institute Laboratory of Circadian and Sleep Medicine, Dr. Christopher S Colwell, and former advisor to the National Institute of Health (NIH) Dr. Michael Ropacki, among others.

“Sleep plays a crucial part in the body’s healing process, but most of the sleep aids one sees on the market aren’t supporting your body into the natural, restorative rest that it really needs for optimum health,” explained Dr. Colwell.

“The team behind RealSleep is pioneering a novel approach to sleep, one that not only adjusts to one’s lifestyle but promotes a long-term shift in one’s sleep experience.”
